about us

At Yutori no Mori, we believe in nurturing each child’s potential through enriching experiences, helping them build essential life skills. Our approach prioritizes outdoor play and interaction with nature, creating a child-centered environment where exploration and enjoyment are at the heart of learning. We strive to support every child’s growth and development through meaningful and engaging activities.

The Little Forest

Though there is no playground equipment in our garden, we have a small forest on our grounds. With plenty of leaves, stones, and tiny insects and creatures, nature is right next door. Children explore this little forest, discovering, touching, creating, and playing (sometimes in the mud) with their own ideas.

Wood

Connecting with trees and forests from an early age fosters a rich and nurturing heart. Wooden toys engage a child’s five senses, promoting emotional development, enhancing sensitivity, and offering soothing effects. Activities involving wood are said to have excellent benefits for both intellectual and physical development, from early childhood through adulthood.

Lunches

We provide seasonal meals that incorporate local cuisine, using fresh, seasonal fish, vegetables, and fruits. We focus on using locally sourced, reliable ingredients and carefully selected seasonings. Our menu is designed to be low in allergens, minimizing the use of eggs and dairy. On sunny days, we enjoy meals outdoors, cherishing the joyful experience of connecting with food.

Nature and Play

We create an environment where children can freely explore and engage in activities they enjoy, regardless of the weather. Outdoor play supports cognitive growth, social skills, and emotional well-being. By prioritizing outdoor activities in all seasons, we help children learn, grow, and build meaningful friendships.

Nature and Well-being

Spending time in nature helps children build emotional resilience and mindfulness, promoting a calm and balanced mindset that benefits both children and their parents. The connection with nature enriches their lives, offering a sense of peace and grounding.

Nature and Health

Active play in natural settings encourages physical development, helping children build strength, coordination, and overall health. Surrounded by greenery, they engage in activities like running and climbing, which contribute to their physical and mental well-being.

Play-Centered Education

We believe play is essential to early childhood learning. Our approach is child-centered, focusing on fostering emotional development through a supportive environment and meaningful play experiences.

Outdoor Play

Outdoor play (while getting dirty sometimes) helps develop the senses, boost immunity, and build resilience to the weather. Stimulating the sense of touch in nature has proven to have positive effects on emotional well-being, reducing stress and anxiety while enhancing self-esteem and confidence.

Experience & Risk management

Our staff manage risks while facilitating activities. This approach aims to enhance children’s ability to recognize and avoid dangers, helping them develop better safety awareness and skills.

Events, Family Day

We prioritize and support children’s interests, curiosity, and creativity. Through events like the following, we aim to foster their growth: Family day, Farm “work”, Outings

Meals

We minimize the use of milk and eggs. Instead, we design menus that provide calcium and protein from sources such as soybeans, hijiki (seaweed), vegetables, and small fish.

Mixed-age classrooms

Children, regardless of age, freely choose their play activities. Older and younger children learn from each other and grow by taking care of younger peers and helping friends in need.
